The current California concern about the dire drought situation is not only about saving water, but also about saving another precious resource: your money! When dealing with drought don’t forget you may qualify for rebates on purchases of water wise appliances and fixtures.
Shortening showers, hand-washing dishes in a sink of suds, and watering landscape fewer days of the week all helps. Water consumption can be further reduced by installing specialized equipment, but that can get pricey. Luckily, rebate programs are available to help ease the pain!
Your water provider, via the California Water Service Company, will reward you for buying water-wise appliances. Shop carefully, though: an appliance sporting an Energy STAR label doesn’t necessarily mean it qualifies for a Cal Water rebate.
For example, rebate-qualified washing machines require a “WF” (the water factor; how much water is used per cycle) number of four or lower. The STAR designation allows for a WF up to 6.0, two points higher than the 4.0 Cal Water washer rebate restriction.
The good news is, about 350 washer models with familiar brand names qualify for the $150 rebate.
Don’t flush your funds down the drain. Instead, you can become flush with money for swapping out your current commode for a water miser model.
Purchase a potty with the WaterSense label, and get up to $50 along with a maximum 1.28 gallons per flush. Choose from the MaP premium model list (1.06 gpf), and double your rebate, up to $100. Either way, ensure the model you choose is on the Qualified Product List.
California water budgeting officially begins June 1st, 2015. Tighten your spigot now, before you get hit with drought surcharges for going over your water allotment. The Cal Water rebate program ends 12/31/15, or when funds run out, whichever comes first. Send in your application now to snag these and other rebate offers.
